
Jefferson via Gray Knob

We'll backpack to Gray Knob early Saturday morning to grab some bunk (floor) space. Sunday we'll attempt to summit Jefferson prior to descending back to Lowe's Store.

You should have:
- Signed Participant Waiver
- Map of Presidential Range - Note: you need this map or similar, otherwise you will need to buy one for $10
- Permission slip for those under 18
- Driving directions to Notch Hostel
- Driving directions to Lowes Garage
- Talent release form (for anyone who hasn’t completed one)
- You also need typical winter backpacking gear and the items specifically mentioned below
Note: you do not need a tent, but you need cooking gear (including stove) for this trip

Friday Night
- We will stay at the Notch Hostel in N Woodstock
- Expect to arrive before 9pm (end of check-in)
- We may go out for something to eat after checking in (optional)
Saturday Morning

- Distance: ~3.3 miles
- Elevation Gain: ~3,000’
- High Point: 4,375' (Gray Knob)
- Hiking Time: 3½ hours
Saturday Afternoon (optional)
- We may attempt Adams, and/or explore the area
- 12:30pm @ Gray Knob
- Trails: Lowes Path
- Distance: ~3 miles (or more)
- Elevation Gain: ~1,400'
- High Point: 5,799’ (Mt Adams)
- Hiking Time: 2½ hours
Sunday Morning
- 7am @ Gray Knob
- Trails: Gray Knob, Randolph Path, Gulfside, Jefferson Loop
- Distance: ~5.2 miles (or more)
- Elevation Gain: ~1,400'
- High Point: 5,716' (Mt Jefferson)
- Hiking Time: 3½ hours
Sunday Afternoon

- Distance: ~3.3 miles

Equipment:
- Typical winter hiking gear, including:
- Snowshoes
- Traction (crampons)
- 0°F (a 10-15F may work) sleeping bag
- You will need to bring one breakfast and dinner and two lunches

Remember: we're only really backpacking the 3.3 miles to Gray Knob and back. All the other hikes will be 'day' hikes, but under winter conditions.
* Microspikes are not recommended for this trip. If you arrive and conditions warrant crampons, then you will not be able to participate and not receive any refund.
