About the event

Note: This is a difficult hike, even compared to others in the White Mountains. Be prepared to give examples of recent hikes to other 4000+ foot peaks before registering.

Our second hike is a loop up over Mounts Flume and Liberty. Great views are available from both peaks which appear wild and rocky. The Flume slide is steep and exposed and slippery when wet, which is often. These are the two southernmost peaks of Franconia Ridge.

About the hike:

  • Trails: Whitehouse, Liberty Spring, Flume Slide, Franconia Ridge
  • Meet: Flume Visitor Parking Lot - separated back lot on left as you enter
  • Hike Location: Franconia Notch, White Mountains, NH
  • Cost: FREE!
  • Type: Day Hike
  • Distance: ~9.8 miles
  • Elevation gain: ~3,700'
  • High point: Mount Liberty (4,459')
  • Hiking time: 7+ hours*
  • Children: very challenging for youth, contact leader
  • Dogs friendly: barely, there is a significant portion on exposed rough and slick rock

You should have:

Look for green Jeep at the trailhead.

* By its nature, it is hard to always know how long a hike will take. Terrain and trail conditions can change, hikers may have a wide variety of speeds, and emergencies can happen. We attempt to estimate the expected time based on nearly twenty years of experience. Sometimes we're wrong.
